A good reminder from @climatedirection_environment on the importance of sustainable agriculture! 🌱 ・・・ Nitrogen oxide is another greenhouse gas (GHG) which contributes to climate change. It has 300 times as much heating potential as CO2. In recent decades the release of nitrogen oxide has increased due to increased agricultural activities to support the ever growing population. Most practices tend to use fertilizers with synthetic nitrogen which when not utilized completely forms nitrogen oxides and is released to the atmosphere. There needs to be more focus on organic sustainable farming practices and eliminating heavy reliance on synthetic fertilizers. One way is to rely on microbes that form symbiotic relationship with plants and supply nitrogen to plants. Another way is to reduce tillage and do drip irrigation that allows natural seepage of nitrogen to plants and also allows more carbon storage.
